Located in the Hyde Park area of Chicago, DuSable Museum is an excellent resource for African-American patrons and others interested in the collection and preservation of African-American history and culture. Founded in 1961 by teacher and art historian Dr. Margaret Burroughs, DuSable is the first and oldest independent African-American cultural institution in the country. Throughout the year, it hosts various African-American related events and programs. In addition to the museum, DuSable has its own research library.
